Before founding Abstract Group, I spent 23 years as a software developer across some brilliant tech companies. One of them had a tradition I really valued: an annual team-building trip abroad. It brought people together in a way no meeting room ever could.
It’s a tradition we’ve proudly carried forward at Abstract. Those who could make it from our UK team headed to Vilamoura, Portugal for a few days of sunshine.
We flew out from Leeds Bradford early Friday morning and landed in Faro mid-morning. After a short transfer to the Crowne Plaza Vilamoura, we had time to settle in, grab lunch, and explore the marina. The evening was spent at Haven Restaurant, good food, relaxed conversation, and a chance to catch up outside the usual work setting.
Saturday’s boat tour was a standout. We explored the coastline, saw some incredible caves, and had the chance to try out water sports like paddleboarding and jet skiing. Trips like this help build the kind of relationships that make collaboration easier when we’re back tackling complex projects.
Sunday gave us time to reflect and recharge. Some headed to the spa, others to the beach or the shops. Everyone found their own rhythm, and that’s what makes a strong team, diverse perspectives, united by shared values.
At Abstract, we talk a lot about solving complex problems through technology and talent. But we also know that scalable success starts with culture. Our values: Listen and Deliver, Pioneering Innovation, Create and Adapt, Unwavering Integrity, and Supportive Community, aren’t just words on a page. They’re lived, and trips like this make that real.
Thanks to everyone who joined us in Vilamoura, it was a brilliant few days. Abstract Group truly believes its greatest asset is its people. We’re already looking forward to the next one.
